Bagbazar Ghats
At the heart of North Kolkata and on river Hoogly, lie the Bagbazar Ghats, a landmark of its early history. The Ghats have existed since the very beginning of the establishment of the city in the early 18th century; with early migrants into the city (both British and Indian) setting up according to their pleasure around the ghats. The ghat was also a site in the Battle of Plassey in 1756/1757; and remains a key ghat for the city today. If visiting Bagbazar Ghats, remember to visit early morning to enjoy the pleasant breeze and flower markets, after which the neighbourhood is named. In winters, you will definitely spot couples doing their prewedding shoots at this historic ghat.

Once a commercial port (Job Charnock is said to have entered Calcutta through one of these ghats), the Bagbazar ghats are used for myriad everyday purposes now, including washing clothes, holy bathing, and thakur bishorjon, or idol immersion, and probably has so been for several decades.
