South Park Street Cemetery
Established in 1767, South Park Street Cemetery is located in Calcutta’s most iconic thoroughfare, Park Street. Once known as the Great Christian Burial Ground, the cemetery was opened as burial grounds for its colonial elite and soldiers. Burials continued here till the 1830s, after which it was closed and cemetery operations were shifted to a new site. It remains one of Calcutta's cultural icons, referenced often in crime thrillers and horror fiction. Its oldest grave dates back to the 1778.
