Writer’s Building
Designed at the fag-end of the early modern period, Writer’s Building opened in 1777, serving as the beating heart of the colonial era as an office for the junior clerks of the East India Company. Post-independence, it was used as the central office for the West Bengal Government until 2013. Located at the centre of the historic B.B.D Bagh, the building has been witness to many a colonial era struggle for independence. The building is 150 metres long and was built close to the location of the original Fort William, where today the Old Revenue Building stands.
