Lal Dighi
Today an incredibly serene spot with ducks and occasional dogs roaming its premises, Lal Dighi has a storied history. Once used by the women of the Sabarna Raychaudhuri family for ritual bathing, this very pond was the site of the 1756 battle where Siraj-ud-Daula’s forces captured the old Fort William, then located just opposite the pond. Also known as The Great Tank, today the spot will offer a few minutes of respite after absorbing the layers of history at Calcutta’s B.B.D Bagh, where the pond is located.
Now a park, this pond was once used for daily purposes, notably used by women of the Sabarna family for ritualistic reasons.
The pond is located very close to St. John's Church, prominently visible on the horizon.
Office buildings now surround the pond's landscape
